In this edition ...

We feature the skatepark opening event, a report of the Remembrance Parade and Services, and news of the forthcoming Christmas Fair and Carol Service.

Skatepark opening event

We were pleased to celebrate the opening of the new skatepark at Horley Recreation Ground with Town, Borough and County Councillors on Friday 17 November together with students from Oakwood School who helped the Town Council in its design and selection phases.  The skatepark was designed and built by Bendcrete Leisure and was completed earlier this year.  Reigate and Banstead Borough Council and Surrey County Council both made valuable financial contributions towards the cost of the project. The skatepark has since been inspected and signed off by RoSPA.  Mike George, Chairman of the Town Council, said that he was delighted that the new skatepark had been completed on time and could see how popular and well used it had become.

Online survey - have your say on the DEFRA Consultation: SES Water Drought Plan 2017

SES Water has published the draft Drought Plan for the period 2018 to 2023, and would welcome residents' views on this consultation.  The plan sets out the steps that would be taken during drought periods to continue to deliver water supplies to customers whilst considering the needs of the environment. This is a revision of the plan published in 2013, and includes how more severe drought events would be managed..

The online survey is available to complete on the link here.  The deadline for comments is 15 December 2017.

The Town of Horley Remembers ...

The Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service at the Memorial Gardens was very well attended on Sunday 12 November, to commemorate the contribution of military and civilian servicemen and women and to all those who suffered or died in the two World Wars and later conflicts. The RBL Branch Chaplain, Reverend John Glasspool, presided over the Service. The Parade was led by the Band of the Redhill Corps of Drums, followed by a procession of War Veterans, Councillors, Scouts, Army Cadets, local schools and other organisations marching up Victoria Road from the Royal British Legion Headquarters in Albert Road. The Memorial Gardens reached almost full capacity with visitors of all ages and poppy wreaths were reverently placed by representatives of the Royal British Legion, local government, cadets, schools and many other community groups.  For the first time, representatives of the 4 Armoured Medical Regiment were also present.  Prior to this event, on 8 November, the Garden of Remembrance was rededicated by the local Clergy and opened by the Chairman of Horley Town Council, Cllr Mike George, in memory of Horley Branch members who passed away during the year. The National Two Minutes' Silence was observed on Saturday 11 November in the town centre.

Photos of the event are viewable here.

Horley Town Council Resilience Plan

Effective and efficient resilience planning requires involvement by everyone in the community to harness all local resources and expertise available should an unexpected major disaster event occur, requiring such resilience measures to be implemented.  The Town Council is currently updating its Resilience Plan which will incorporate disaster resilience planning, and asks for residents' help should they have the necessary means, such as, providing access to boats, tractors, 4x4's etc and to consider providing their details to be added to the Council's contact list.
