PODS Perinatal & Infant Disability Support Worker

Hello Everyone;

I’m Louise and I am PODS new Perinatal & Infant Disability Support Worker.

I am very much looking forward to starting my new role and ensuring families have the support they require when they need it the most. I have gained a wealth of lived experience in my journey, we had a postnatal diagnosis of complex disabilities shortly after my son’s birth. Now my son is in school, I am hoping to create a difference in this role at PODS to ensure no one goes through the journey alone like we had too.
My desire is that no one feels alone when receiving a perinatal or infant disability diagnosis, I hope to provide support and guidance for the journey ahead. I will help in a manner of ways, such as being a listening ear, attending appointments, explaining unknown jargon and offering practical advice. Whatever families may face, every step of the way I will be there, ensuring families are supported is the most important thing to me.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about the role, or if you are expecting a baby with disabilities or have a child under 2 diagnosed with disability: louise@podstelford.org

SEND Inspection Report (OFSTED/CQC)

Thank you to all our families who participated in providing feedback as part of the SEND Inspection in March, through completion of the survey or via the parent carer groups that inspectors met with.  The final report has now been issued, and you can find the link below.

PODS Parent Carer Forum will provide a response in due course (we are meeting as a Strategic Parent Rep group today - Monday 10th July to discuss). In the meantime, we continue working on the SEND Action Plans and embedding the 'Working Together Charter'.

Newbold Hope - Workshops and Training for Parent Carers over the Summer

Sharing from Newbold Hope...

"We are hosting a series of eight Newbold Hope Approach online training sessions over the summer. They are all co-produced with families who have lived experience, so everything we suggest has already worked well with other children in our community. They'll cost £8.50 each, which includes 4 week's access to the recording. We've had such incredible feedback from parents who have already taken part, and we now know of around 4,000 families in our community who have managed to help their child significantly reduce their violence or stop it altogether after joining us online for our Newbold Hope Approach sessions.

The dates and topics are:

  • 13th July - How to survive the school summer holidays with a calm and happy family
  • 20th July - How to keep brothers and sisters safe and happy
  • 27th July - How to help a demand avoidant child feel happier and calmer
  • 3rd August - How to boost communication skills in children and young people
  • 24th August - How to support a child to reduce their controlling behaviour
  • 31st August - Managing Change/Transitions/Routines in very anxious children
  • 14th September - Getting the best for your child in meetings.
