Let's Talk about Paternity Leave...at Telford Exotic Zoo!!

DAD'S EVENT - Friday 4th April 3.30-6pm at Exotic Zoo

We have received the following email from Shaun Davies MP, and wanted to share with wider families - Dad's in particular.

More information is below:

"We need to talk about our role in our children's lives, and we need to talk about it together. The UK’s statutory paternity leave is considered worst in Europe. Dads and other co-parents get only two weeks off, and there’s evidence that this is bad for everyone: mums, dads, kids, and society as a whole.

We need to review paternity leave in the UK, and we need to ensure that it gives dads enough time off to support their partner and bond with their kids, without taking leave away from mums. This cannot be at the cost of families, and should be paid at a rate that means everyone can afford to take it. Parents should be free to shape their own roles in the family, not have them dictated by the expectations of their gender.

In a recent survey of UK households, it was agreed that Dad's should have a bigger part in their children's lives, they should have paternity leave and more importantly - the public is on our side.

With over 30% of households in Telford having dependent children, this is topic that could really make a difference for families locally. So, let's take action. Let's sit down, with our kids, and spend some time talking about how we can ensure that we get a better deal for Dads."
